A Quintessential Christmas In Melbourne
Countdown On Collins

There is a reason that Melbourne was voted World’s Most Liveable City for seven consecutive years, and it’s not just because of the coffee.

Melbourne is a city where you can see and feel all the seasons, with its urban expanse adding its own twist to our favourite times of the year.

Christmas is no different, and the CBD comes alive in the festive period with sights, smells and flavours that are hard to beat.

If you’re planning to spend Christmas in our Stamford Plaza Melbourne suites this year on our Suite Melbourne Escape Package, here is what you can find on your doorstep and beyond.

There is so much to experience in Melbourne this festive season, and our beautiful suites set the scene for a memorable yuletide stay. Send Santa to Little Collins Street this Christmas on our Melbourne Escape Package, and watch the hotel and city come to life during the most wonderful time of the year.

The best part is that most of this festive-fuelled fun is free to enjoy!

Melbourne Christmas Projections

Melbourne’s architecture might just be one of the easiest ways to identify this great city, and through the month of December, you can see it awash some festive colours and designs with the annual Christmas Projections. Wander through the city on foot, and see State Library Victoria, Melbourne Town Hall and Princes Bridge lit up between 9:00pm and 10:45pm. These projections are on now until Christmas night and are a great way to cap off dinner or drinks in the many surrounding restaurants and bars. Be sure to start with the State Library Victoria, as the feature show, Melbourne Night Before Christmas, will be projected, written by Marieke Hardy and narrated by Lee Lin Chin.

Christmas in Melbourne

Spending Christmas with some tiny travellers? Santa’s House at Federation Square is a must-visit, which is open daily and on Thursday and Friday evenings. If you haven’t got your annual Santa photo yet, you are in luck, with Santa and his elves ready to greet you until Christmas Eve. No Melbourne Christmas is complete without seeing the tree at Federation Square, and now you can linger longer for daily events, sing-alongs and light shows. After your visit, find yourself close to ACMI, NGV and many other attractions that can be explored in the vicinity.

Carols by Candlelight

Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight is an event which is truly special, with the warm feeling lingering long after the final carol. Taking place in the picturesque outdoor venue, Sidney Myer Music Bowl, this occasion is anticipated by attendees young and old. The event features an impressive light show, costumes, and of course those beautiful songs we all know and love. Depending on the view you are after, there are a range of ticket options that place you on the lawn (attendees bring their own seating) or in reserved seating, with family passes available. Spend your Christmas Eve surrounded by friends and family, lighting up the lawn with candles and Christmas spirit.

Myer Christmas Windows Melbourne

Some of the best traditions are the simplest ones, and that is certainly true of the MYER Christmas window displays. Reimagined every year through delicate crafting and the finest materials, MYER brings to life a festive scene that always delights the sea of window gazers. If you are looking to fill your afternoon, or want to get to the city for some last-minute Christmas shopping, be sure to take the time to watch these mechanical displays. MYER is very tight-lipped over the direction they take these creations each year, and so you have to see it to believe it.
